Trying to change the way half the world cooks is a big task, especially for one man. Good thing social entrepreneur Ruben Walker joined Impact Hub Amsterdam! His company, African Clean Energy, has launched the ACE 1, a smokeless cookstove that will eradicate the health, environmental and poverty-inducing harm caused by cooking on open flames or using dirty fuel (which is the way 3 billion people worldwide currently cook).

Through Impact Hub Amsterdam he connected with another member, Karim Maarek, of Teach to Fish, a Crowdfunding company which he hired to create a Kickstarter campaign for the ACE 1 (bit.ly/AfricanCleanEnergyKickstarter). Ruben was also placed with three top-class interns specializing in marketing, project management and grant writing. Impact Hub Amsterdam also put him in contact with a well-known animator and experienced designer to create a video and revamp the company’s website.

Within the span of only a few months, he brought on over a dozen people to work on his campaign.  “When you’re trying to realize a big idea it’s important to surround yourself with supportive people who want to help. That’s what the Impact Hub does for African Clean Energy”, says Ruben.
