For nearly sixty years, the headquarters in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, has become the hub for the African Medical and Research Foundation - Amref Flying Doctors - providing comprehensive and vital relief efforts. Among the approximately 600 people working with Amref Flying Doctors are doctors, nurses, pilots, educators and healthcare professionals. About 98% of the staff were born in East African countries where the organization operates. Amref Flying Doctors' activities aim at developing health and medical care in the countries concerned by helping people to access better healthcare, which in turn makes it easier for them to work and thus get out of poverty. This is done by providing the population with the tools needed for self-help.
