WWF and Impact Hub join forces for the planet
12 September 2019 - Jesper Kjellerås

Let’s join forces for people and the planet

Nature and the benefits it provides to people and our societies are fundamental to the existence and richness of human life on earth. If more resources than ever are being supplied to people, we are living far beyond the planetary boundaries. A drive for consumption and profits leads to climate warming and mass extinction – scientists assume we have about 15 years left before the 1.5-degree warming is reached and irreparable damage is caused.

The good news is that there is also increasing traction on environmental topics. Ventures, initiatives, and society, in general, are more willing to get involved and act for more sustainable development. That’s where Impact Hub’s and WWF’s ‘Join Forces’ campaign comes in.

Our ambition with this effort is to share solutions from Impact Hub’s communities around the globe and create awareness to inspire and enable more members to take action towards the following key themes: Oceans, Food, and Climate & Energy. The first phase of the campaign focused on Oceans and happened in June 2019. We are starting the second phase which focuses on Climate & Energy and will launch in October 2019. Impact Hub’s and WWF’s partnership combines decades of natural conservation expertise with entrepreneurial action for transformational impact, in more than 30 countries. Want to know more? Click here.

“We are less than 1000 days from the halfway point toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals but we still have a long way to go. To prevent catastrophic environmental effects, we are now in a race against time to find new solutions, and accelerate the development of existing technology. This partnership is a warning sign for all companies that we must work together to create the change that our world needs. And we must achieve this in our generation.”

– Cathy Xiao Chen, Head of Operations, Impact Hub Stockholm

More about the partnership:

WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. Impact Hub is honored to be their partner for more than 8 years now. In this partnership, we are combining decades of natural conservation expertise with entrepreneurial action for transformational impact in the areas of food, oceans, forests and climate & energy.

The goal of our joint work is to find, accelerate, and scale solutions as well as prototype new approaches that address environmental issues while creating economic opportunity for local communities. In more than 30 countries, unlikely allies are convened to tackle environmental problems and environmental entrepreneurs & intrapreneurs are supported through programs like the deforestation challenge in Brazil or the Sustainable Seafood pilot in Japan. And to strengthen this truly global collaboration, WWF and Impact Hub support each other beyond projects: In 2018, 50 WWF employees participated in an innovation-focused, virtual training series delivered by Impact Hub to learn how to use new tools that will help them achieve their conservation goals. Our ambition is to deepen existing collaborations between WWF offices and Impact Hubs, Here you can find out more about this partnership and discover stories about some of the supported entrepreneurs.
